At 28 years old and 403 pounds, Koli Palu knew he needed to change his life—and he has made that change while competing on season nine of NBC’s hit show, The Biggest Loser.“In Tongan culture, everything we do is cause for family gathering—baptisms, baby blessings, somebody’s first talk—there’s an occasion for everything, and there’s always a lot of food,” said Palu. “That’s how I gained a love of food. For me, food equals good times with family and friends.”

Teamed with his cousin, Sam Poueu, the two have proven to be tough competition on the show, surviving weekly eliminations to be two of the final eight contestants. Palu, a returned missionary who served in the North Carolina Raleigh Spanish Speaking mission, says he and his cousin draw tremendous strength from each other, and that he also found inspiration from a team of two Tongan cousins, Filipe and Sione Fa, who competed in the seventh season of the show.

“I’d only seen a couple episodes, one of which was the makeover episode. I saw Filipe, and I remember him walking out, and his wife was there,” Palu recalled. “I saw the love that they had for each other, and I knew if I wanted to make that next step in my life, I needed to make some changes. I put everybody else in front of me. I would use that gratification of service but wondered, what was I doing for myself?”

Palu says that when he first agreed to be on the show, he viewed it as “just a competition, a chance at winning money.” But he soon discovered there was much more at stake. “[Sam and I] realized that the show was more than a competition—it was really about changing our lives and figuring out what got me to 403 pounds.”

Before the show started, Palu began to look introspectively and determined that in addition to his Tongan heritage, his lack of self-esteem contributed to his obesity.

“I didn’t think I was worth changing myself,” he recalled. “I would just give up. I figured I was going to be fat and lonely for the rest of my life. That became my goal: to find myself and that self-esteem that I needed so badly. I found that in the show, but it’s only part of the journey.”

As of the April 27 episode, Palu has lost 144 pounds in 15 weeks. He says his goal now is “to stay healthy for the rest of my life. I also want to be a college football coach. I want to be a father and husband, to find someone I can take to the temple. There were a lot of lessons learned from the show to help me become a better man.”

“I don’t know if I could have lost the weight without the show,” Palu continued. “I’m grateful for the path it took me on. I’ve come a long way from that guy I used to be—not just because of the weight loss, but because of the things I’ve been able to accomplish on my own.”

The Biggest Loser airs Tuesdays at 8 P.M. Eastern/7 P.M. Central. The finale airs May 25.

…so the lawsuit claims. It will be interesting to see what comes of this. We have seen lawsuits with a lot less merit, than this one, win when they go to trial. I for one, would never EVER try a pill that promises weight loss. How about Nutritional Cleansing folks, ever tried that? I don’t know whether Jillian, the creator of this diet pill or a bad marketing platform brought on this lawsuit or if it is just frivolous. However, I can tell you that although the Biggest Loser is one of my favorite television shows, losing weight does not have to be that hard! I wish I could leap into the television and onto the set to give them Isagenix.

Here is the scoop on the lawsuit:

LOS ANGELES – Jillian Michaels has been sued for alleged false advertising by a woman who claims she was duped into buying a diet supplement endorsed by the celebrity trainer.

Christie Christensen of Lake Elsinore, Calif., is seeking class-action status for the case she filed Tuesday in Los Angeles. Michaels is a hard-charging, no-nonsense trainer best-known as one of the stars of NBC’s hit reality show, “The Biggest Loser.”

Christensen’s lawsuit claims she bought a product called “Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Calorie Control” last month and that it has failed to lessen her appetite or cause her to lose weight as advertised.

Michaels’ picture and endorsement appear on the packaging, touting her as “America’s Toughest Trainer.” The product and a Web site advertising include the claim, “Two Capsules Before Main Meals and You Lose Weight … That’s It!”

“Ms. Michaels knows better — taking two pills before eating does not miraculously cause weight loss,” the lawsuit states.

The Web site and packaging however note that the statements haven’t been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Christensen is also suing Utah-based Basic Research and ThinCare International, which manufacture and market several diet and weight loss products endorsed by Michaels.

ThinCare said in a statement it offers a money-back guarantee for purchasers and expects to win the case. The company also touted touted its products’ popularity and testing standards.

“Not only have placebo-controlled, double-blind, published clinical studies been conducted on the active calorie-control compound in Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Calorie Control, but that research was reviewed by some of the leading weight-loss experts in the world before Jillian would put her name on the product,” the statement read.

Michaels’ publicist, Heidi Krupp, did not return a phone message seeking comment Wednesday.

“Calorie Control” is not among the products that NBC lists for sale on its “Biggest Loser” Web site, which include video games, DVDs and equipment, some bearing Michaels’ image.

“The Biggest Loser” has been a hit for NBC, often appearing in Nielsen Co.’s Top 20 rankings for prime-time TV programs.

Christensen’s suit seeks unspecified damages that are not expected to total more than $5 million. Her filing states she has “struggled with weight loss her entire life” and bought “Calorie Control” because of Michaels’ endorsement.

Have you ever had the scare of a loved one, perhaps a parent, being
told that if they didn’t change their eating habits, lose weight and
start exercising that they might not make it too much longer?

Let me first tell you that I am an avid watcher of the TV reality
show called “The Biggest Loser.” I get a little emotional nearly
everytime I watch that show! Why is that? Well, because I love
it when people change for the better, whether it be losing weight
overcoming an addictive habit, learning how to be unselfish…

But the real satisfaction comes to me when I see that someone has
made a serious breakthrough in their lives. When they have
discovered something non-traditional, or unfamiliar to the masses
but which has been proven to be a more effective tool in whatever
goal they are pursuing.

Let me share with you an e-mail I received from my Uncle Ron just
a few days ago. Uncle Ron has been overweight nearly his entire adult
life and has struggled to keep the weight off ever since he began
gaining. He is about 65 years old. He wrote me recently to tell
me about a breakthrough he’s had in his health:

-Snip-

“Hey nephew and niece, You would fall off your seat if you saw me
now. This is nothing to brag about, but Isagenix has altered my
life and is bringing my health up to speed. I am coming in more
ripped and am down to a 38-40 jean waist, the worse being 50-52.

My worse weight before I started a diet 2 years ago was 375(the
nurses tried to tell me I was at 405 but I made them work the scale
differently:). You know all this. And, I had gained 25-30lbs back
by the time you guys came (with the Isagenix Products), but more
importantly, I didn’t feel good. Now the doctors have checked me
again and my cholesterol in normal and my blood pressure was 120/70
and I am now at 240 pounds!

I still have a lot of hurdles yet and am taking this one step at a
time. I haven’t even started my exercise routine yet….These I
have suffered over the the last years have hampered me a little.
But hey, I have both of you, Aunt Stephanie, and Allisa(who
validated this from a nurses backround) to thank. I am working to
remove every ounce of fatty tissue off of me.”

Uncle Ron on the Left(no more double chin!)

I don’t know about you, but I love to hear life altering stories such as this one,
especially when it comes from those you love. Can you think of a better
gift to give your loved ones for Christmas than to help them live a longer
and happier life?

I invite you to learn more about Isagenix, “World Leader in Nutritional Cleansing”
