- Your Heart. Women getting five or fewer hours of sleep are 45 percent more likely to have heart attacks.
- Your Sugar. In 2005, the Archives of Internal Medicine discovered that people getting 5 hours of sleep or less were 2.5 times more likely to develop Impaired Glucose Tolerance and Diabetes. Those getting 6 hours of sleep or less were 1.7 times more likely. Diabetes and sleep loss? Does it effect blood sugar?
- Your Travel. Sleepy drivers account for 20 percent of serious, injury-related car accidents.
- Your Balance. In a 2007 study in the Journal of Gerontology, doctors found that sleep-deprived people are 2 to 4.5 times more likely to sustain a fall.
- Your Spirits. Running on empty will contribute to depression, distress, and even abuse of alcohol. Teen sleep deprivation is becoming an epidemic for our younger folks. Kids today are not only sleeping less, but are sleeping less soundly. This could be the culprit for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
- Your Life. If you’re sleeping five hours or less per day, you have approximately a 15 percent greater risk of dying of a multitude of issues.
